Paul Cappiali

Paul is a dedicated community leader, small business owner, and current member of the Greenwich Board of Education. Though his participation has been limited by partisan obstacles, he has remained actively engaged by caucusing with his Republican colleagues, serving as liaison to members of the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET), and contributing to strategy on key issues. Paul and his wife — a Greenwich teacher — are proud parents of two children in Greenwich Public Schools.

Paul owns a retail business and understands the challenges of running a small business in today’s economy. He has also held leadership roles as Sales Executive with Empire Merchants and as Executive Vice President of UFCW Local 2D, gaining expertise in strategic planning, negotiation, and collaboration. 

He has served on the RTM, as an RTC District Leader, and on boards of local nonprofits. His education includes studies at Harvard Law School, the University of Connecticut, and Arizona State University. Paul is committed to academic excellence, transparency, and ensuring families have a strong voice in Greenwich schools.

 

Karen Krause

Karen Krause is a financial services executive, parent, and community volunteer.  She brings over 25 years of leadership experience in finance, strategy, risk management, and corporate governance.   Karen has a proven track record of fostering collaboration and improving performance and efficiency.  

She most recently served as the Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer at TransUnion (NYSE: TRU).  Prior to that, she held roles of increasing responsibility at JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM), S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI, prior owner of McGraw-Hill Education), Goldman Sachs, and McKinsey.  

Her two children attend Cos Cob School, where Karen has served as a room parent and PTA volunteer.  She also serves as a volunteer EMT at Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS).  

Karen holds a bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School.   

Michael-Joseph Mercanti-Anthony

Michael-Joseph Mercanti-Anthony is a seasoned educator with over 27 years of experience in public education, serving as a teacher, administrator, and education professor. He has held leadership roles including Director of Continuous Improvement for the New York City Department of Education, Assistant Principal, and Special Education Director. He is currently a public school principal, where he improved the graduation rate from 67% to 93% since COVID.  Throughout his career he has helped schools improve systems, implement evidence-based practices, and address learning gaps.

Dr. Mercanti-Anthony earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.  A frequent presenter on the science of learning, his writings have appeared in multiple national publications, including EL Magazine, Edutopia, and the Hechinger Report.  

An active member of the Greenwich Board of Education, he focuses on setting clear, student achievement-focused goals, supporting educators, and ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students. He and his wife, Dr. Catherine Berzolla, a Greenwich native and OB-GYN, are proud parents of two children and reside in Riverside.
