Most states with mail-in ballots will match the signature on the return envelope to the signature on file. The National Conference of State Legislatures lists 32 states plus Puerto Rico that conduct signature verification on returned absentee/mail ballots. Connecticut does not. Officials check that the inner envelope is signed. They do not match the signature to the voter’s registration record, nor to the absentee ballot application form.

The Movement Advancement Project scores Connecticut a zero on this point. Connecticut sits with a small group of states — Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont and a handful of others — that treat a signature as present-or-absent rather than as a true comparison match.

If that was the baseline, the Democrat Supermajority in Hartford chose to drop us lower—lower than zero.

What Hartford Did in 2026

In 2026 the General Assembly passed no-excuse absentee voting (Public Act 26-42 / HB 5001), implementing the 2024 constitutional amendment. Every eligible voter may now request an absentee ballot. Senate Republicans offered amendments to add verification and other safeguards. Every one of those amendments failed on a 25–11 party-line vote.

So Connecticut made it easier to vote by mail while remaining one of the states that does not match signatures on the ballots that come back.

Greenwich’s Record

Ryan Fazio and Tina Courpas have treated election integrity as a true campaign promise. Greenwich’s Democratic House members, Arzeno and Meskers, voted with the majority that expanded the system and rejected the safeguards. Accessibility without verification is not “more democracy.” It is a weaker chain of custody on the most portable ballot in the system.

Common sense and logic would dictate: if we expand mail ballots, we should tighten the check. Hartford did the opposite. It’s time to break the Democrat Supermajority. Connecticut needs your Republican vote across the board in November.
