How to Be a Write-In Candidate
Because of an unusual shortage of candidates, there are 31 open seats in the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting for this November’s election. This means that people can join the RTM simply by getting a relatively small number of people to write in their names on the election ballot.
Here is a list of the districts with open seats.
| District | Polling Place | Open Seats |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Town Hall | 4 |
| 4 | New Lebanon School | 4 |
| 5 | Riverside School | 7 |
| 8 | Central Middle School | 2 |
| 9 | Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center | 5 |
| 12 | North Mianus School | 8 |
If you are not sure which district you are in, check the polling place in the table above or check the district boundaries or the district map.
To run for the RTM as a write-in candidate, you must fill out a registration form and turn it in to the Town Clerk’s office before election day, Nov. 4. You should also ask all your friends and neighbors in your district to write in your name on the election ballot. Because most people have never written in a candidate’s name before, you might suggest that they ask for help from the election staff, who will be glad to be of assistance.
