Two Republican Board of Education Members Make Resignations Effective Immediately

Greenwich, Connecticut — The Town Clerk’s Office today accepted written requests from former Board of Education members Michael-Joseph Mercanti-Anthony (who had served as BOE Chair) and Wendy Vizzo Walsh (who had served as BOE Secretary) to revise the effective dates of their resignations. Both resignations are effective immediately.

In their original resignation notices, both members cited personal reasons for stepping down. They continue to cite those same reasons.

With the resignations effective immediately, the process to identify candidates to fill the two vacancies will begin.

Both seats were held by registered Republicans. Under the Town Charter, their replacements must also be registered Republicans. The Greenwich Republican Town Committee is therefore accepting expressions of interest from qualified Republicans who wish to be considered for appointment to the Board of Education.

The RTC will carefully vet candidates and make recommendations consistent with its responsibility to the Republican voters of Greenwich.
