Aquarion Seeks Nearly 29% Water Rate Increase

Connecticut families, already squeezed by soaring costs, now face a shocking 28.6% hike in Aquarion water bills—demanding immediate scrutiny. Greenwich Republicans encourage residents to stay informed, review the proposal carefully, and participate in the public process.

Many Connecticut residents recently received notice that Aquarion is seeking a 28.6% increase to the average residential water bill.

At a time when families are already facing rising costs for energy, housing, groceries, and taxes, this proposed increase deserves careful scrutiny.

Residents should also pay close attention to proposals that shift the costs of assistance programs onto utility bills. Similar charges have already contributed to higher electric bills across Connecticut and many ratepayers are concerned about additional costs being added to their monthly water bills.

Aquarion says the increase is needed to recover the costs of infrastructure improvements, water quality upgrades, regulatory compliance, and other investments made since its last rate case. The proposal comes as Eversource moves forward with plans to sell Aquarion to the newly created Aquarion Water Authority, raising additional questions about future oversight and ratepayer protections. Before any increase is approved, Connecticut residents deserve transparency, accountability, and a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
