Gov. Ned Lamont has done the right thing and vetoed the monstrous housing bill, HB-5002, passed by the Democratic supermajority in Hartford over the recent legislative session.
News12 is reporting that Lamont made the decision this morning.
Everyone who worked so hard to urge Lamont to reject this horrible housing bill deserves kudos for your passionate advocacy for local control.
Special thanks go out to our local leadership and representation, especially First Selectman Fred Camillo, Sen. Ryan Fazio, and Rep. Tina Courpas. Greenwich owes you a huge debt of gratitude for your leadership in opposition to this potentially devastating bill.
Unfortunately and despite their last-minute "no" votes in Hartford, Reps. Hector Arzeno and Steven Meskers, along with candidate for Greenwich Selectperson Rachel Khanna, supported and/or sponsored parts of the monster bill as it mushroomed from its original intent — a one-page initiative to study homelessness in Connecticut.
Thank you, Gov. Lamont, for your careful consideration of this bill and your ultimate vote to preserve our local governance.
