Power Grabs by Greenwich Democrats Have Costly Consequences for Taxpayers

06 May, 2025

Greenwich’s compromised Board of Education voted (5-3)* on Friday to sign controversial GPS Superintendent Toni Jones up for another two-year term. Unelected "Republican" Jennifer Behette conspired and voted with Democrats to achieve this outcome.

Last October, BOE Democrats Karen Hirsh and Laura Kostin ignored a century of precedent, recruited their liberal personal friend, Jenn Behette, and improperly seized control of the board. Thus, they were able to plant their own Manchurian Republicanin the vacant seat.

By charter, it was the Board of Selectmen's responsibility to appoint the new board member — which they promptly did, appointing Greenwich father and community leader Paul Cappiali to the vacant seat. When Mr. Cappiali was sworn in and began attending meetings:

Democrats moved the meetings to Zoom and blocked him from attending.

BOE Democrats have simply implemented a hositle takeover of the Board and run with their own agenda.  Holding illegal meetings, extending contracts, and are now debating structural changes to our children's education — despite never having won elected control of the board, nor having the legal authority to do any of this.

The matter is currently being adjudicated, but Democrats have no intention of waiting for that decision. Instead, they’ve plowed ahead, cramming their fiscal incontinence down the throats of Greenwich taxpayers.

Dr. Jones's current contract does not expire until June 2026. There is zero need to add another two years to her term at this time, but BOE Democrats are doing it anyway. They are clearly trying to ram through their extravagant plans before losing their illegitimate grasp on power.

Will this runaway BOE's bad decisions be vacated? Or are we stuck with THREE MORE YEARS of Dr. Jones pillaging Greenwich taxpayers? How much more time and expense will be required to sort it out? You can thank power-hungry BOE Democrats for creating this mess.

It’s disturbing to see the lengths to which Democrats will go to bilk Greenwich taxpayers out of millions.
