If You Want Greenwich to Have a Real Seat at the Table, Vote for Republicans, Row B

28 October, 2026

FROM SELECTWOMAN LAUREN RABIN

Greenwich Selectwoman Lauren Rabin takes on the “seat at the table” argument, and makes the case that real representation shouldn’t depend on joining the party in power.

Greenwich Selectwoman Lauren RabinI have read several letters suggesting Greenwich residents should vote Row A because electing Democrats gives our town a “seat at the table” in Hartford.

I find that argument troubling because it suggests that a community’s voice in Hartford depends on which political party holds power. Since when should representation depend on belonging to the majority party? Every community deserves to be heard, regardless of which side of the aisle its elected representatives sit on.

That argument raises a larger concern about Hartford’s balance of power and whether differing perspectives are truly being heard. Consider Senate Bill 298, introduced through emergency certification in February and passed by both chambers within two days. Legislation addressing numerous significant issues moved forward without the normal committee and public hearing process. Is that what having a seat at the table looks like?

Greenwich is politically diverse, with about 30% registered Democrats, 30% Republicans, and 40% unaffiliated voters. We should seek greater balance in Hartford, not reinforce one-party control.

And let’s not forget the financial relationship. Greenwich residents contribute significantly to Connecticut’s income tax revenues, including taxes on investment income. Yet decisions affecting our families, businesses, and property owners too often go forward without sufficient consideration of their impact on our community.

I have said this before, and it bears repeating. During the two years I was represented by a Democrat in the State House, my state representative never called to ask my perspective on an issue affecting Greenwich. Not once. And I was, and remain, a sitting Selectwoman.

Greenwich doesn’t need representatives who are “invited to the table” by a Legislature that doesn’t reflect our interests. We need representatives willing to challenge what is being served.

We need leaders who do more than vote yes or no. We need leaders who speak up, ask tough questions, offer solutions, build relationships, and advocate for everyone they were elected to represent.

That is why I support our Row B candidates for Governor, State Senate, and State House.

This election is about restoring balance, demanding accountability, and ensuring Greenwich’s voice is heard and respected.

Greenwich shouldn’t have to earn a seat at the table by voting for the party already controlling it. We deserve representation, period.

On or before November 3, vote Row B.
