Congratulations Joe Kelly on being named this year's Greenwich Sentinel!

"A Sentinel Award honoree lifts up and brings together our community, identifies and fortifies that which makes us strong, and helps others whenever possible," explainsthe Greenwich Sentinel local paper. "They demonstrate leadership through their actions, which inspire action in others. They understand that strength lies in differences, not in similarities. They are unyieldingly positive and their caring for others belies their internal fortitude. Most important, a Sentinel Award honoree loves Greenwich."

Indeed, Joe has demonstrated exemplary public service and leadership. As a Greenwich Board of Education member (2019-2023), he championed fiscal responsibility and safe school environments. A former Greenwich High School rugby coach, Kelly led the team to eight state championships and was honored with the 2018 Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2022, he organized a boxing-themed fundraiser, "Rumble in the Park," in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, raising funds for Kids in Crisis. His volunteer work includes nearly two decades as a firefighter with Amogerone Volunteer Fire Company.

The Greenwich Sentinel Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aims to foster a strong sense of community in Greenwich by supporting local charities, organizing community-building events such as the annual Sentinel Award, and promoting mutual respect and support among residents. The foundation will honor Joe on Thursday, June 26.
