Party Crashers

14 July, 2025

Imagine being asked to leave an event by the host — and just ignoring them.

Speaking of BOS candidates politicking on Greenwich Ave., on Thursday, Democratic candidate for Selectwoman, Rachel Khanna, and her Greenwich Democrats compadres erected a tent on the Avenue and started aggressively campaigning — right in the middle of the annual Sidewalk Sales Days event.

The only problem was that, unlike everyone else who had a tent set up on the street, the Democrats had neglected to fill out an application and register with the event organizer, the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce. Sans a permit or insurance, they simply popped their tent and crashed the event. They also distributed food — a health code violation not covered under the event's insurance policy. If only the DTC had properly registered, they would have had access to the event rules.

The Chamber asked the Greenwich Democrats to remove their unregistered, uninsured tent, which they did. But they maintained a presence in the lot in front of the BOE building — a property the Chamber had permitted exclusive access to for Sidewalk Sales Days — even though there were other locations on the Avenue where they would have been free to set up shop. Benefitting off someone else's non-political event, the Democrats spent days accosting passers by, evangelizing their politics and driving customers away from the businesses who had paid and registered their tents in that spot.

Greenwich Democrats even placed a campaign announcement on social media, implying that they were part of the Chamber's apolitical event:

After ignoring multiple requests to leave the private event, the Democrats were finally dislodged by law enforcement. The entire spectacle was very curious behavior from people who aspire to hold office at Town Hall.
