Promises Made, Promises Kept

FROM TINA COURPAS · 149TH DISTRICT

State Rep. Tina Courpas on the promises she made to the 149th District, how she kept them, and why Connecticut needs more balance in Hartford.

Tina Courpas, State Representative, 149th DistrictThank you for the privilege of representing the 149th District for the last two years. It has been the honor of my professional life to serve you and this state we all love, our home.

I am the daughter of two Greek immigrants who came to this country with nothing but an education and lived the American dream. I worked for over two decades as a corporate lawyer and banker. I also headed a bipartisan nonprofit that advocated for the rights of women and girls in Connecticut. I am the mother of four children, whom I raised in this district.

I ran for office in 2024 because I still believe in the American dream and in the power of our democratic system to raise all people up to a better life. But I was concerned with the direction our state was heading. After my first term, I am even more concerned today.

I promised you then that I’d stand for fiscal responsibility to make Connecticut more affordable, and I have. I voted every single time to uphold Connecticut’s fiscal guardrails, the only path to reducing our high taxes, and I was named an Affordability Champion by the state’s largest business organization.

I promised to defend local control of zoning, and I have. I was a leading opponent of the 2025 Housing Bill and authored 14 bills to defend local control of zoning.

I promised to support robust funding of education, and I have. I led passage of a landmark special education bill allocating a record $110 million in education funding.

And finally, I promised to stand for common sense and bipartisanship, not toxic politics, and that’s exactly what I’ve done. I’ve worked across the aisle, co-sponsoring 18 bipartisan bills that passed into law, and earned the Independent Party’s endorsement in this election.

If there is one takeaway I have from my first term, it’s that Connecticut is way out of balance. We’ve been a one-party state for 16 years, and that has not served our great state.

Connecticut has all it needs for a big, bright future. But to achieve our potential, we need more balance, less partisan political theater, and more practical problem-solving.

I believe that is exactly what I offer to voters.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you, and I respectfully ask for your vote.
