Your Voice Matters in Hartford

FROM JOE KELLY · 36TH DISTRICT

State Senate candidate Joe Kelly on why balance matters in Hartford, and why every voter in the 36th District should make their voice heard.

Joe Kelly, candidate for State Senate, 36th DistrictElection Day is almost here, and I want to ask every voter in the 36th District to take the time to participate. Not because of a party label, but because the decisions being made in Hartford affect your family, your home, your business, and your community every single day.

Right now, one party holds overwhelming majorities in both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly. Democrats control 25 of the 36 seats in the State Senate and 102 of the 151 seats in the House. That matters.

Healthy government works best when different viewpoints are represented, ideas are challenged, and legislators have to explain why a proposal makes sense before it becomes law.

Too often, I believe the concerns I hear throughout Greenwich, north Stamford, and New Canaan are not getting enough attention in Hartford.

People talk to me about electricity costs that keep climbing. They worry about property taxes, housing costs, and whether their children will be able to afford to stay in Connecticut. Older residents wonder whether they will be able to remain in the homes and communities they have spent decades helping to build.

Business owners tell me about regulations, taxes, and costs that make it harder to invest, hire, and grow.

Parents want excellent schools and believe local communities should continue to have a meaningful voice in how those schools are run.

These are not Republican issues or Democratic issues. They are Connecticut issues, and they deserve serious representation in Hartford.

I have spent much of my life working in this community as a business owner, coach, volunteer firefighter, Board of Education member, and member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation. In every one of those roles, I learned that the best decisions usually come when people with different perspectives sit down, listen to one another, and work toward a practical solution. That is the approach I will bring to the State Senate.

I will not go to Hartford simply to vote against the majority. I will go there to ask questions, offer alternatives, and work with anyone (Republican, Democrat, or Independent) who wants to make Connecticut more affordable, competitive, and accountable.

But balance matters. When one point of view dominates government, it becomes even more important that individual districts send representatives who are willing to challenge assumptions, speak up for their communities, and make sure decisions are not simply taken for granted. That is why this election matters.

The 36th District includes Greenwich and portions of Stamford and New Canaan, and this year voters are choosing a new state senator. I humbly ask that you choose me, because my promise to you is simple:

I will listen. I will do my homework. I will work across party lines when that produces a better result, and I will speak up when I believe Hartford is moving in the wrong direction.

But none of that happens unless people participate. So whether you have voted in every election or haven’t voted in years, please make your voice heard.

Our community deserves a strong voice in Hartford, and that starts with yours.
